Call me Mr. P

You're now looking at the new president of the Game Maker's Club of Columbia! We had a meeting tonight and people decided that I was someone qualified to be the president of our new organization. So I guess I am! This has me pretty stoked (oooh I love using that word).

I've just discovered that there are actually a lot of cool people in my major. The officials of our club are all pretty awesome and motivated! This makes me feel equally motivated to get going on some sweet game developing.

That's all I really got. By the way, here's this:8 more days.

Touch and Go

I haven't really touched home base lately and blogged. It used to be something I did all the time. It summed up life, made me think about what I actually did, and allowed me to look back later. I think I might be growing away from it though! Although it seems that only Dani reads my blog anyways, so my audience is a little slim.

So what do I have to say these days? Some things that are cool are happening.

I'm participating in Stachetober, even if a certain someone who sparked it and may or may not be named dean already dropped out. I haven't shaved the stache since oct. 5th, and I don't plan to until at least after Oct. 31st. So far I don't hate myself. But we'll see what happens. It's still in its larval form. I'll post pics later when I can dig up my camera and take a few!

Also, I'm part of the beginning of a game makers organization at Columbia! This is pretty sweet because it makes me pretty high profile in my department (and I always love a good ego stroking) and it means I'll finally meet all those other kids that aren't in my classes but in my major, and we might even be able to make some games! That will be most enjoyable.

Aside from that, this semester is kind of a cruise. Well, that is if you don't count my 28 page study guide for my personal wellness midterm next week. That's not so cool. I got a friend of mine from Game Design hired as the new me at my office (aka student worker). It's pretty sweet because now I have someone I can consistently talk to at work. And I can even boss him around! Okay that's not true. I can't unless Andre tells me I can.

Me and Dave went to see a show on tuesday. Namely, Architecture in Helsinki. They were probably the best show I've seen in...well maybe one of the best shows I've ever seen! If you don't know who they are, I highly suggest, no, I demand that you check them out. Stop grumbling, you'll thank me later.

I need to start hanging out with my friends more. I never know what to say to them anymore because I don't know what they are up to! And most of them are my room mates! That's never a good sign.

Bring back the things that make me happy right now List:
  • Architecture in Helsinki. great show, good times.
  • Hanging out with Dave. We have awesome conversations about games, philosophy, music, and coolness!
  • Jeramiah, the awesome new student worker (until we fire him!)
  • mustaches...but not stache-snacks! Clean that fucker out!
  • possible game making
  • last weekend...even though I forgot what made it good.

I'll try to blog a little more often. That may be a lie. Let's hope it isn't.

Let me tell you...

Not having gas is not fun. I haven't showered in 4 days. Well, I sorta showered. When the water is cold, showering means washing my hair and maybe my face. You never really notice how much you use gas for in a house until you don't have it.

I can't cook in the oven. I can't cook on the stove. I can't shower. I can't really do the dishes (cold water doesn't really do the trick). I'm mostly just glad that it isn't cold out yet, or I might just die.

Lousy gas company. Dean had to switch the gas for our house over to his account when Dave moved out. Unfortunately, the gas company got confused, or fucked up, or something, so they thought we didn't apply at all, and cut off our gas. Dean calls them, and they say he should have gotten an email, which he didn't. He hangs up, and gets the email. For some reason beyond me, we still didn't get gas then, and still don't have it 4 days later. And worse, he called them again, and apparently we aren't getting it until next tuesday. Why?? I dunno, they don't feel like it. Blah. I want to shower (I'm not Dani! :P).

Ahhhhhh, now I feel better.

El Presidente

So now that I've gone through my first full week of the new job I feel that I can judge it. Well, at least a little. That's alright, right?

I like it. It may be mostly data entry and organizing said data, but it satisfies my neurotic need to pay attention to every little detail about everything all the time. And I'm actually making a difference. I'm working on a report right now that the president will see. No not George Dubya, Wacky Warren. But still, that feels pretty cool. Maybe it's not, and I'm just feeling the aftershock of spending two years in a student worker job that had no meaning whatsoever.

So that's that.

My teacher/concentration coordinator is initiating the start of a Game Creator's club, and it's about the most fantastic idea ever. For me, and people in my major. We have four concentrations, that, after freshman year, won't see each other for three-ish years before coming together for the final production class. No good. This club will bring us all together, and we'll get to make games by making our own little teams and projects. I might end up being the president or vice president of this club (we'll see who I have to assassinate) which would be amazing. I'd be like...president of the nerds. I mean that only in the best way. And it is a great resume thing.

Aside from that, classes are classes. I'm making a pretty sweet board game in my turn-based games class that involves mining asteroids in SPAAAAAAACE. Hey now, don't give me guff, I didn't choose the subject of the board game, it was assigned to us. It is fun though. And crafty!

I feel like I hardly talk to anyone anymore. Even in my house. We are all over the place and we don't touch base all that often. I need to work on that.

That is all. Peace friends.

Movin' On Up

I GOT THE JOB I GOT THE JOB I GOT THE JOB!!!

Okay for those of you who I haven't said anything to so as not to look like a fool should things not turn out (as mentioned before), I got a REAL job at Columbia. It's a part time job as the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Institutional Research. It's a position in the same office I'm in now, and the lady who used to work there quit awhile ago, and I was essentially doing a lot of her job since.

When it came time to hire someone new, her boss (above Director of Inst. Research) suggested I apply, ya know, because I've been doing it anyways. Well I did, and I got the job! Admittedly I was their second choice, some other person was slightly more qualified than I, but she got another job already, so I win! So now I have a real job that's not copy and file, and even better, I'll be getting paid a large amount to do this. CAPITALZ AND EXCLAMAT!ONS ARE HOW I FEEL RIGHT NOW!!!!1111oneoneone.

Phew, so I'm super glad I got this. It will make paying the bills a ton easier and I'll actually feel like I have some worth at work. It's not going to be easy at first though, I think I'll have quite a bit to learn, but I'm pretty sure I can step up and do it.

In other news, other things in Baggy's life are changing. I just took up a minor (finally) in management, meaning I'll be able to stay full time my last year of school (next year even though it should be this year). This is good, because I was able to convince the school to extend my scholarship for one more year too, since this whole extra year of school thing wasn't really my choice. Hoorah!

On the slightly negative side, this job means no working in a field related to my major this year. Any internships or other part time jobs will only be able to happen in the summer when I can spare another 20 hours on another job. Ah well, I can worry about that later.

Here's to hoping that this job isn't too over my head!

school time

So I want to tell everyone about an opportunity right now, but I don't want to go posting it all over the internetz until it all goes through. Some of you know what it is, others may not. I feel like if I mention it here though, I'll be jinxed.

I kept wanting to post about it all week and being like, "No! Then I will be the fool if it doesn't work out". I had to say SOMETHING though, because it could mean a lot more money in my pockets, and right now that sounds mighty good.

School started a whole two weeks ago already! I can't believe it's been that long. My classes aren't anything to write home about quite yet, but the pace is going to pick up soon and then I'm sure I'll have plenty to come complain about here. For now I'll just give you a short rundown:

Turn-Based Games: It's going to be really interesting and a lot of fun, if still a lot of work. We are going to be designing/making board games! Soon I get to have my own board game construction kit, which is going to mean craft-time galore.

Oceanography: It's a gen ed. I love the ocean. Unfortunately, this means that I pretty much know everything there is to know in this class, so its not going to be incredibly educational. I can deal with that, its good to have a blowoff class in the mix.

Personal Wellness: Sounds like a bullshit class, I know. But I think it will be good. Since I've become pretty notorious for being in not-so-great health, this should teach me how to pull things together and take care of myself. And its not just about physical health, but mental/social health too. Double Plus!

Engine-Based Games: I am lucky to have a head start on this since I took a class that tested out the stuff for this class last semester. Its going to be lots of scripting, but that's what I love.

Uh oh, time to go to Delilah's with Cam and Abbi for awhile. Catch ya later!

Fresh Start

OOooooooh this is new territory! I haven't ever had a blog like this on blogger before. Before I just had a nerdy game theory and philosophy blog, and a class blog. Well, MySpace goodbye, Blogger hello!

I was hit with the shock that omgschoolstartsnexttuesday and suddenly all that laziness of the summer seems like a big waste and I feel like I have to be constantly doing something fun to make up for it. That doesn't make sitting at work for 8 hours doing nothing any easier, let me tell you.

Yesterday me and Mara decided to begin a project of epic proportions, a project to change the lives of the Sluggers forever. We changed the crazy ideas room. Well, it was really Mara's idea. We got some cool middle-east/indian/north african looking fabric and made a canopy to hang from the ceiling. It ended up being like...an 8 hour project. But it turned out awesome! Props to Mara for the idea.

the rest of this week I've just been avoiding my computer like the plague when I'm at home, because the computer makes me waste copious amounts of hang time that I no longer have. In fact, I shouldn't even be sitting here right now! What am I doing?

I guess this blog didn't really go anywhere. I thought I had things to say, but it was mostly just that I don't want school to start yet. Well I kinda do, but I don't want to not have free time anymore. Can't I have both?

It's Here!

The BagBlag now exists! Real blogs later.
